Major Injuries to Woman Flown to UC Davis, Minor Injuries to Big Rig Driver in Hwy 49 Collision

Columbia, CA…On September 20, 2017, at approximately 1015 hours, a 3 axle Peterbilt dump truck loaded with sand was traveling northbound on SR-49 south of Springfield Road at approximately 45 mph. A Ford F-250 pick-up truck was traveling southbound SR-49 south of Springfield Road at an unknown speed. This location is just north of the city of Sonora. The Ford F-250 crossed over the double yellow lines into the northbound lane, colliding with the Peterbilt head on. The Peterbilt dump truck overturned blocking both lanes of SR-49 and spilling the load of sand onto the roadway. The Ford F-250 sustained major damage and subsequently caught on fire.

The driver of the Ford F-250, an unidentified female, sustained major injuries in the collision and was flown to UC Davis. She was the only occupant of the Ford F-250. The driver of the dump truck, 57 year old Modesto resident, Larry Robinson Jr sustained minor injuries. He was the only occupant of the Peterbilt.

Emergency personnel and Caltrans set up a detour around the scene of this collision. The roadway reopened at approximately 1447 hours.
