Sad Ending to Domestic Case as Sonora Man Takes His Own Life in CHP Parking Lot

Jamestown, CA…From the Sonora Police Dept..”Update at 9:22 AM:…The vehicle came to a stop in the parking lot of the California Highway Patrol Office in Jamestown. The driver, 24-year-old TJ Matthew Porter of Sonora died from a self inflicted gun shot wound shortly after.

At approximately 9:52 p.m. last night, the Sonora Police Department responded to the 100 block of Columbia way after receiving several 911 calls reporting a man forcing a female into a vehicle at gunpoint. Officers responded and learned that the persons involved were estranged husband and wife and that he had taken her from the area in a red Dodge vehicle. A bulletin was posted to outside agencies as our department initiated cell phone tracking measures in an attempt to locate the vehicle and its occupants.

Outside agencies, to include the Sonora Area CHP and the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Department, later located the vehicle as it traveled from Calaveras County back into Tuolumne County. Thankfully, the female victim was able to get away from the vehicle and had suffered only minor injuries.

We are not releasing the suspect’s name at this point as that aspect of the investigation is being handled by the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Department.”
