Angels Camp, CA…The docks, boats and decks were filled for the Ribbon Cutting and Grand Opening of the New, New Melones Marina. Ownership is now is local hands as the Mills Family unveiled the remodeled and freshened up Marina. The event also helped reinforce that while water levels may be less than what we would like there is still plenty of water waiting for all of your watersport, boating and houseboating adventures. The ribbon cutting ceremony was officiated by Supervisor Debbie Ponte and Darrin Mills’ former babysitter. Refreshments and Newsome Harlow wines were served.

“We want people to know that there is water in the lake and we are open,” exclaimed Kathryn Porovich, spokesperson for New Melones Lake Marina. “We have so much to offer. Most of our business is tourist oriented, but we want to show local residents all the services and opportunities for fun on the lake.”
During the Grand Opening complimentary lake tours will be given on patio boats and all marina services will be showcased. Attendees will have the first opportunity to make reservations for Malibu ski boats, patio boats, jet skis, hydro bikes, kayaks, stand-up paddle boards and towable tubes for the summer season.
“There is still so much water in the lake,” Porovich added. “It’s a great time to be here. And you have the rare opportunity to pull your boat up to a white sand beach bar, made by tailings from the old mines.”
Darrin Mills, owner of Distinctive Metals in Angels Camp, officially took over the marina operations in September of 2014. Since that time the marina convenience store has been completely remodeled with new carpeting and paint and offers everything from candy bars, beer and wine to lunch and dinner options, apparel, fishing supplies and gifts.
To reach New Melones Lake Marina, take Highway 4 just south of Angels Camp and turn on Whittle Ranch Road, at the corner of Glory Hole Sports. Follow the road all the way to just before the end at the point and turn left toward the marina at the large sign. Take your first right into the parking lot and a free shuttle will transport all guests to the marina dock.
The Grand Opening ceremony was one of the services for new and expanding businesses offered by Destination Angels Camp, the economic development arm of the City of Angels. DAC’s all-volunteer board meets the second Thursday of each month from 10:30 a.m. to noon at DAC headquarters, 1211 S. Main St., Suite 220, Angels Camp. Board meetings are open to the public.
