Sonora, CA…This collision occurred as 55 year old Modesto resident, Mr. Tresenriter, was driving his 2007 Toyota Camry westbound on SR-108 west of Mono Way. At this time, 32 year old Mountain View resident, Mr. Rapozo, was driving his 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee eastbound on SR-108, approaching Mr. Tresenriter. Mr. Tresenriter, mistaking the oncoming traffic lane as a passing lane, allowed his Camry to cross the center line of the road. Mr. Tresenriter immediately realized the mistake he had made and abruptly swerved his Camry back into the westbound traffic lane where he lost control of the vehicle.
Mr. Tresenriter’s Camry then crossed back into the eastbound traffic lane, directly into the path of Mr. Rapozo’s Grand Cherokee. Mr. Rapozo was unable to take evasive action and the vehicles collided head-on. Due to the hazard, the Sonora Police Department as well as the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Department assisted with traffic control and diverting additional motorists around the collision scene. The roadway was closed for approximately 1 hour.
All occupants were utilizing seatbelts and no alcohol or drugs are suspected to have been a factor.
