Santa Rosa, CA…California Statewide Fire Summary Thursday, October 12, 2017. Fire conditions remained active overnight as over 8,000 firefighters braced for gusty. North winds as they battle 21 wildfires that have burned 191,437 acres. Red Flag Warnings for gusty winds and low humidity remain in effect across the fire area and much of Northern California. These winds will continue to challenge firefighters in their efforts towards containment and will increase the risk for new fires. With high fire danger across California yesterday, a new large wildfire broke out in Fresno County. The death toll has risen to 23 across 4 fires as estimates remain that 3,500 homes and other structures were destroyed. Hundreds of additional fire engines and firefighters have been requested from other states, not only to help relieved crews on the frontlines, but to be ready for the possibility of new wildfires that may ignite during the Red Flag Warnings.
With wildfire risk high, residents are urged to remain prepared for wildfires. Learn more by visiting www.ReadyForWildfire.org.
