Douglas Flat, CA…On November 23, 2017, at approximately 1800 hours, Sarah Rae Rohde was driving her vehicle westbound on SR-4, west of Holiday Mine Road at 55-60 MPH. At that time a black bear entered the roadway directly into the path of her Subaru and was struck and killed as a result. The force of the impact with the bear caused major intrusion into the passenger compartment of the vehicle. The driver and her 19 month old passenger sustained fatal injuries as a result of the collision. The four year old passenger received minor injuries and was flown to UC Davis Medical Center for treatment.
Alcohol and/or drugs are not believed to be a factor in this collision.
