Sonora Man Arrested for Elder Abuse and More Wednesday Night

Sonora, CA…Tuolumne Deputies responded to Sparrow Lane in Sonora Wednesday night to investigate a reported assault. The elderly victim was assaulted by 31-year-old Carl Greenway and suffered minor injuries which did not require medical attention. After the assault Greenway took the victim’s cell phone to prevent them from calling authorities for help.

Greenway was found at a nearby apartment and questioned about the altercation. He retreated back into the apartment when he learned he was being arrested. As the Deputy attempted to take Greenway into custody, Greenway punched the Deputy in the face. He was given verbal orders to stop resisting but he continued to fight in the narrow hallway. At one point, he grabbed a hold of another Deputy’s firearm which luckily stayed secure in the holster. Greenway was eventually placed in handcuffs after the struggle.

Greenway was escorted outside to a patrol car and began to pull away from deputies in an attempt to escape and had to be physically restrained once again.

Greenway was booked for physical elder abuse, resisting arrest with violence, attempting to take a firearm from a Deputy obstructing the use a cell phone when the victim’s intent was to summon the Sheriff’s Office for help, and for violating his probation. Greenway is on Tuolumne County probation for being a prohibited person in possession of ammunition.
