Two Local Men Survive Afternoon Plane Crash off of Hogan Dam Road

Valley Springs, CA..On 12-14-17 at about 1:45pm Deputies and First Responders were dispatched to a reported plane crash in the 10000 block of Hogan Dam Road located at a private property air strip. This is rurally located between Valley Springs and Copperopolis in Calaveras County. Upon arrival deputies found that both occupants of the plane had self-extricated and began receiving medical attention from first responders arriving on scene.

A witness reported to have seen the low flying airplane and believed it may have clipped a tree near the end of the runway. The exact cause of the crash is unknown at this time. It is also unknown if the plane was taking off or landing at the time of the crash. The plane is a 1981 Cessna fixed wing single engine aircraft.

The pilot, identified as a 72 year old male from Lake Camanche and the passenger, a 75 year old male from Pine Grove, were both taken by air ambulance helicopter to out of the area hospitals. The extent of their injuries is unknown at this time. Sheriff’s Office investigators are on scene and working with the Federal Aviation Administration. No further information is available at this time.
