Arizona Resident Arrested for Domestic Violence, Child Endangerment, and Resisting Arrest

Angels Camp, CA….On January 6, 2018 at approximately 1:40 PM, officers from the Angels Camp Police Department and deputies from the Calaveras Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to the Frog Jump Plaza parking lot for a report of a male and female yelling at each other in the presence of a young child.

The victim told officers that 26 year old, Phoenix Arizona resident, Marcus Phillips followed her to the Frog Jump Plaza parking lot and started a verbal argument. The victim reported that she told Phillips to leave her alone. He then took the young child from her vehicle against her wishes. Phillips was holding the child when officers arrived on scene.

Officers confirmed there was a valid restraining order on file protecting the victim and child from Phillips.

Phillips offered resistance to officers when he was advised he was under arrest. Phillips refused to hand the child back to the victim. Officers were able to safely take the child from Phillips and return the child to the victim. Phillips continued to resist arrest, and started a physical fight with officers. As a result of the fight, one officer suffered serious injury and was treated at an area hospital and released.

Phillips was taken in to custody and after obtaining medical clearance from a doctor, was booked in to the Calaveras County Jail for the following charges:

243(e)(1) PC – Battery Against Spouse
273.6(b) PC – Violate Protective Order
148(a)(1) PC – Resisting / Obstructing a Peace Officer
243(b) PC – Battery on a Peace Officer
148.10 PC – Resisting Arrest Resulting in Injury to Officer
