Pioneer, CA…CHP has released details on this morning’s tragic collision that took the life of a 37 Year Old Woman & 11 Year Old Girl both from Pioneer. At approximately 6am this morning a 1998 Saturn Coupe was traveling westbound on Hwy 88 east of Dew Drop Road. A 2011 Toyota 4Runner was traveling eastbound on Hwy 88 east of Dew Drop approaching the Saturn. For an unknown reason the Saturn crossed over the double yellow lines and proceeded over two eastbound traffic lanes and off onto the south dirt shoulder of Hwy 88. The Toyota 4Runner being driven by 56 year old Pioneer man was traveling on his way to work in Kirkwood.
He observed the Saturn on the south dirt shoulder ahead of his vehicle. He steered into the fast lane from the slow lane to give the vehicle more room. The driver of the Saturn then steered her vehicle back to the righand crossed from the south shoulder back into the traffic lanes and directly into the path of the Toyota. The vehicles then struck head-on in the #1 eastbound traffic lane effectively blocking the entire roadway.
The two Pioneer residents who were occupants of the Saturn were pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Toyota sustained a broken right hand as a result of the impact.
It is unknown at this time if the driver of the Saturn was under the influence of Alcohol or Drugs at the time of the collision. The names of the deceased have been withheld pending notification of next of kin.
From all of us at ThePineTree.net our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of the deceased.
