Major Injuries to Copperopolis Man in Motorcycle Collision on Hwy 4

Angels Camp, CA…On January 20, 2018, at approximately 1750 hours, San Andreas CHP Officers were dispatched to a traffic collision on SR-4 east of Stallion Way. The now injured 53 year old Copperopolis was observed driving his motorcycle recklessly on westbound SR-4 east of Stallion Way. He was passing other vehicles over the solid double yellow lines as another Copperopolis man was traveling eastbound. As the two vehicles passed each other the front of the motorcycle impacted the left rear of the 2000 Chevy. This impact caused the motorcycle to overturn and was ejected from the vehicle.

the motorcyclist was flown by helicopter to Memorial Hospital in Modesto for treatment of major injuries. It was found that he was wearing a non-DOT approved helmet during the collision, which offered minimal protection to his head and face during the collision.

The highway was completely blocked for approximately 39 minutes, resulting in minor traffic delays in the area. One lane of traffic was eventually opened, and the entire highway was re-opened at approximately 1840 hours.

At this time, alcohol and/or drugs are being considered as factors in this collision, along with dangerous passes being made by Party #1 just prior to the collision.
