Falling Asleep Behind Wheel of Stolen Vehicle Leads to Arrest

Jamestown, CA…From the Tuolumne Sheriff’s Dept….It is not a good idea to fall asleep behind the wheel, especially if you are in a stolen vehicle. On Friday night deputies and medical personnel responded to the Chicken Ranch Casino parking lot in Jamestown for a report of an unresponsive man in the driver’s seat of a white 2015 Chevrolet Colorado. Several bystanders had pounded on the window of the truck in an attempt to wake the man but were unsuccessful.

When Deputies arrived and opened the unlocked door, they were able to wake 33-year-old Michael Douglass. Douglass did not appear to have a medical emergency and said he was just tired.

A records check of the Vehicle Identification Number was conducted as the truck only had a paper dealer plate. The vehicle had been reported stolen and the key fob to the truck was found in the man’s pocket.

Our CHP partners responded to the scene and took possession of the vehcile.
Douglass was arrested and booked into the Tuolumne County Jail for vehicle theft, possession of stolen property and an outstanding felony vandalism warrant out of Mariposa County.
