Minor Injuries in Collision & Reckless Driving Charges for Groveland Man

Groveland, CA…On Saturday, January 27, 2018, at approximately 10:36 am, 67 year old Groveland resident, David Webster, was driving his 2006 Subaru Outback westbound on Old Priest Grade. Webster overtook a slower moving vehicle traveling at or near the speed limit of 25 miles per hour. Webster decided to pass the other vehicle over the double yellow lines on a guardrail-protected left curve that was posted with a 15 mile per hour cautionary sign. Webster accelerated to 35 miles per hour or faster as he unlawfully passed the other vehicle.

During the passing movement, Webster was approaching a blind right curve where it was impossible to determine whether there was an oncoming vehicle. Due to his excessive speed, Webster was unable to reenter the westbound lane and the left front of his Subaru struck the rocky incline embankment on the south shoulder of Old Priest Grade. The Subaru climbed approximately 12 feet up the embankment, then dropped and overturned upon its right side, coming to rest blocking the eastbound lane of Old Priest Grade.

Webster was transported by ambulance from injuries he sustained during the collision. Reckless driving charges have been recommended to the District Attorneys Office against Webster.
