Sonora, CA…On Saturday, January 27, 2018, at approximately 5:45 pm, 62 year old Sonora resident, Dale Zgraggen, was driving his 2007 Toyota Prius eastbound on Phoenix Lake Road east of Meadow Brook Drive. 61 year old resident, Judy Kellerman, was driving her 2004 Toyota Land Cruiser westbound on Phoenix Lake Road approaching Zgraggen’s location. At this time, a large deer with big antlers leaped out from the right shoulder directly into the path of Zgraggen’s Prius.
The left front corner of the Prius struck the deer sending it airborne in the direction of Kellrman’s Land Cruiser. The rear end of the deer crashed through the windshield and ended up in the backseat with the head resting on the center console. Judy Kellerman and her passenger, 76 year old Sonora resident, George Kellerman, sustained injuries and were transported via ambulance to Adventist Health Sonora. The deer was killed on impact.
