West Point, CA…Born April 23, 1927 in San Francisco, to Clarence & Lucile Van Pelt Hughes. He was 90 years old. He graduated from Samuel Gompers Trade School in 1945, where he studied Diesel Engineering. He joined the U. S. Coast Guard/Merchant Marine, made several trips to sea, eventually obtaining an honorable discharge from the Navy. In November, 1952 he was inducted into the U.S. Army and spent two years in Korea, receiving an honorable discharge from the Army.
He is survived by his wife, Pegi; daughters Coleen Boike of Redwood City & Maureen Unsinn (Dick) of Burlingame; Step daughter Debi Prevost (Marty) of Beach Park, Illinois; Brother Robert of San Francisco; a niece, several great-nieces & great-nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at First Baptist Church of West Point on Saturday, Feb. 10th at 11:00 a.m., followed by a potluck reception in the Church social hall. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to: Gideons International; Hospice of Calaveras county or First Baptist Church.
