San Andreas, CA…The Calaveras Arts Council is pleased to announce the 2015 recipients’ of the scholarships they administer to residents of the county. This year’s recipients are:
Robert Atkinson Artist Scholarship (visual arts-$500). Samantha Castro, Calaveras High; Jessica Paul, Mountain Oaks; Adriana White, Bret Harte High School; Mikayla Kunesk, Bret Harte High School
Arts of Bear Valley Scholarship (visual arts-$750). Amelia Maurer, Bret Harte High School
Calaveras Arts Council (non visual arts-$250). Eric Figel, Mountain Oaks; Jack Gilbert, Bret Harte High School
Vallecito Music Boosters Scholarship (music-$200). Madison Colburn, Calaveras High School; Audriana Schaad, Toyon Middle School; Vanessa Gates, Calaveras High School
The primary goal of the scholarships is to assist people in cultivating a lifelong involvement in the arts. The arts are essential to a complete education and any society that deprives its people of these pursuits accepts mediocrity. The scholarships are meant to provide encouragement and support for those who have the vision that the arts are vital to success in today’s work force.
The non-profit Calaveras County Arts Council operates Gallery Calaveras at 22 Main Street in San Andreas. Hours are Tuesday – Thursday, 11:00 am to 6:00 pm, Friday and Saturdays, 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. The gallery offers free parking both in front and in back and is handicapped accessible. Become an Arts Council member and receive a 10% discount on all your gallery purchases.
