West Point Attempted Murder

West Point, CA…On 06/05/15 at about 0700 hours, the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Department responded to a report of an assault on the 23000 block of Highway 26, in West Point. Deputies arrived on scene and observed a 19 year old male who had sustained defensive injuries in attempt to protect himself from a knife attack. Suspect Michael Mendibles was allegedly intoxicated when he confronted the victim, made several threats, and attempted to stab the victim.

The victim was able to wrestle the knives away from Michael Mendibles, who then left the area and later returned with a bow and arrow. Michael Mendibles was attempting to draw the bow when the victim escaped through a window. The victim notified the Sheriff’s Department. The victim received minor injuries as a result of the attack. Suspect Michael Mendibles was placed under arrest for attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, and battery; bail was set at $510,000. The investigation into the stabbing and motive is ongoing.
