Kirkwood, CA…On March 4, 2018 at about 6:40 pm the Alpine County Sheriffs Office received a report of two missing persons at the Kirkwood Ski Resort located in Alpine County, California. The persons were described as a 50-year-old woman and her seven-year-old son. Responders to the search included Alpine County Sheriffs Office, Alpine Cou, Search and Rescue, Eastern Alpine Fire, Kirkwood Fire, Kirkwood Ski Patrol and Kirkwood Security.

A search of the missing persons’ last known origin near chair seven was initiated when it was determined that the missing persons had boarded the lift at approximately 4:00 pm. At approximately 9:00 pm a neighbor of the missing persons noticed ski gloves on the snow along the side of their condominium. The neighbor investigated the ski gloves and realized the missing persons were lying buried beneath the snow. The two victims, Olga Perkovic, and her son Aaron Goodstein, were found unconscious approximately three feet beneath the snow and were immediately uncovered by rescue personnel. Medical aid was administered and both patients were flown by Care Flight and Cal Star to Barton Memorial and Carson Tahoe hospitals. Neither patient survived their injuries.

During the investigation, Deputies determined that Ms. Perkovic and her son had decided to return to their condominium by skiing an alternate route which brought them through a wooded area into the condominium complex. When Ms. Perkovic and her son reached the complex, they skied underneath a roof covered with snow which ultimately slid from the roof burying them. Ms. Perkovic was visiting Kirkwood for a ski vacation with her three children and mother when the incident occurred.
