The Search Continues for Tom Mullarkey, Missing Since March 14th

Bear Valley, CA…The Alpine County Sheriff’s Office has been searching for Mr. Mullarkey since March 14th with no success. Search efforts have been focused within the boundaries of the Bear Valley Resort because of the extreme avalanche danger in the surrounding wilderness and a lack of evidence suggesting Mr. Mullarkey had skied out of bounds.

Search and Rescue personnel have conducted a thorough and methodical search operation during periods of heavy snow fall, white out conditions, and single digit temperatures. Today is the first day air operations have had a chance to deploy. California Highway patrol assigned one of their helicopters to search for Mr. Mullarkey in areas surrounding the resort.

For March 19th, the Sheriff’s Office has requested that CHP and Air National Guard helicopters continue to assist search efforts by conducting a search of the resort’s perimeter. Additionally, a fixed wing drone equipped with an advanced surveillance package has been requested as well as a fixed wing aircraft equipped with highly sensitive infrared technology which would be deployed in the evening.

If anyone has information that may lead to determining Mr. Mullarkey’s whereabouts, please call Undersheriff Spencer Case at (530) 694-2231 ex: 357.
