Sacramento Area U. S. Naval Sea Cadets Training and Camping at Lake Camanche This Week

Ione, CA…From the Amador County Sheriff’s Office…While on a call at Lake Camanche this afternoon, two members of our patrol team came across an interesting group of campers. The group was comprised of high school aged boys and girls who are camping for the week as part of the Sacramento Division of the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps. We spoke with the program’s Lieutenant Commander, retired Navy Chief Petty Officer Curtis Gant, and learned the kids are participating in a series of military training and team building exercises to prepare them for future military enlistment.

The cadets greeted our staff in a polite and professional fashion, following the training of the program. The Sea Cadets place an emphasis on patriotism, courage, self-reliance, community service, and kindred virtues. It was great to see these hard-working young men and women spending their spring break preparing for their future serving our country. We hope the Sea Cadets enjoyed the natural beauty that Amador County has to offer.
