Minor Injuries in Motorcycle vs Sheriff’s Vehicle on Camp Nine Road

Vallecito, CA…A 37 year old Escalon man was driving his 2002 Yamaha on Camp 9 Road EB, at approximately 25-30 MPH. A Sheriff’s Deputy was driving his cruiser on Camp 9 Road WB, at approximately 15 MPH. He was an on duty Calaveras County Sheriff Deputy driving a marked Sheriff’s vehicle. Camp 9 Road is a narrow one lane roadway which snakes through a mountainous area. As the two vehicles approached the same blind curve, the Escalon man was driving his motorcycle near the left road edge. The deputy observed the Yamaha coming and turned to the right, into the ditch and came to a stop. The motorcycle rider tried to stop and turned to avoid the collision but his rear brake locked and the left side of the bike collided with the left front of the patrol vehicle. The Yamaha fell to its side and the rider was ejected to the ground.

No injuries were sustained to the deputy. The Escalon man sustained minor injuries and refused medical attention at the scene. No drugs or alcohol are suspected.
