Bear Valley, CA…The 5th annual Nickolay Dodov Slopestyle Competition is happening at Bear Valley! It will be a day full of friends, fun, and good vibes! Registration starts at 9 am in the Sun Room with practice runs beginning at 10 am. The slopestyle competition will begin at 11 am with awesome prizes being awarded after the competition.
Cost is $20 to participate.
The Nickolay Dodov Foundation is part of a nationwide movement to educate youth and all-age winter sports enthusiasts to stay safe in winter environments. Over the last 10 winters an average of 39 people died in avalanches each winter in North America. We believe providing educational presentations of the avalanche awareness program Know Before You Go will help safe lives.
We Are Spreading the Word…
Here’s what the Nickolay Dodov Foundation did in 17/18 winter season:
The Nickolay Dodov Foundation presented the avalanche awareness program Know Before You Go 11 times to more than 1500, ski/snowboard athletes, middle, high school and university students, coaches, teachers, parents and mountain enthusiasts of all ages.
The Foundation stretched its reach with presentations of the program KBYG in California.
January – Kirkwood Big Mountain Ski/Snowboard Teams and Alpine Race Teams, Mt Shasta Ski/Snowboard Teams
February – Avery Middle School, Bret Harte High School, two presentations at South Tahoe High School, Bear Valley Ski/Snowboard Teams, two presentation at Squaw Valley to Big mountain Ski/Snowboard Teams and Alpine Race Teams, Montana State University to the Backcountry Club.
The Foundation organized and supported the Fifth Annual Nickolay Dodov Slopestyle Event.
NDF had it first Fundraiser at Outer Aisle in Murphys, CA where they presented this year’s Schmidt Award. The Schmidt Award is dedicated in the memory of Marty and Denali Schmidt. The award is given annually to an individual or organization providing snow safety awareness to the broader snow sports community through exemplary educational or management practices. Nickolay Dodov Foundation has the great pleasure to honor this year with the Schmidt Award The Utah Avalanche Center for their efforts to inform and educate the public about backcountry avalanche conditions!
NDF translated the KBYG program into the Bulgarian language then organized and supported two presentations in Bulgaria.
With the help of Karl Birkelnad, Director of The National Avalanche Center, and Georgi Georgiev, mountain guide and avalanche educator from The Free Mountains Associations helped to translate and print an Avalanche Safety brochure into Bulgarian to be distributed to the mountain resorts in Bulgaria.
NDF was honored by the Ebbetts Pass Historical Foundation and was given the 2015 Award of Excellence for our valuable contributions to the public and the Foundation’s effort to bring avalanche safety awareness to the forefront through local programs and national associations providing a significant educational platforms to the ski and snowboard community for this and future generations!
