Fowler, the author of six novels and three short story collections has written literary, contemporary, historical, and science fiction. Her most recent novel, We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves, won the 2013 PEN/Faulkner, the California Book Award, and was shortlisted for the Man Booker. “It’s been years since I’ve felt so passionate about a book. Gold Rush Writers’ Conference was founded in 2005 by New York Times best-selling author and Mokelumne Hill resident Antoinette May with the help of a dedicated group of fellow writers. The goal of the Gold Rush Writers’ Conference is to provide creative writers of all levels

a chance to participate one-on-one with established professionals through workshops, lectures,
panels and readings. In January 2017, Arnold resident, Sally Kaplan, came on board as the Co-
Director of Gold Rush Writers’ Conference with the goal of widening its appeal.

Kaplan states, “For nearly twelve years, the Gold Rush Writer’s Conference has been a bit of
secret gem. Now we continue to bring the Conference out of hiding to share with a wider public
the riches offered by world-class authors who attend the event.”
