Sonora Resident Arrested for Driving Under the Influence and Resisting Arrest

Angels Camp, CA…On May 4, 2018 at approximately 8:45 PM an officer from the Angels Camp Police Department conducted a traffic stop of a 2003 Volkswagen Passat on South Main Street near Monte Verda Street for expired registration. The driver of the vehicle was identified as 38 year old Sonora Resident, Daniel Everett. While speaking to Everett, the officer noticed signs that Everett was possibly under the influence of drugs while driving and asked him to complete Field Sobriety Tests (FSTs) to determine if he was intoxicated. Everett agreed to submit to the tests and stepped out of his vehicle. An additional officer arrived to assist the first officer while they completed the FSTs.

After performing the FSTs, officers concluded Everett was under the influence of drugs and told Everett he was going to be arrested for Driving Under the Influence. As officers began placing Everett in handcuffs, Everett became extremely emotional and started yelling and pleading with the officers to let him go. Everett continued to yell and plead and began physically resisting officers as the officers repeatedly requested he calm his behavior.

Everett thrashed about and attempted to place his body in the oncoming traffic lane. Officers were able to gain control of Everett and placed him in the back of the patrol car to be transported to Calaveras County Jail for booking. Everett was not injured during the struggle with officers.
