May 16, 2018 – Grand Tasting Event – Be the first to taste the best-in-show, double-gold and gold-medal winners of the 2018 Sierra Foothills Wine Competition. CWA in partnership with the Chamber of Commerce and the Calaveras County Fairgrounds will be hosting a Grand Tasting Wine Event at 6pm on Wednesday in the Wine Pavilion at the Fairgrounds. This event will kick off the Fair and recognize the accomplishments of the local gold-medal winners by offering tastings of the winning wines as well as delectable catered appetizers. May 17-20, 2018 – The Calaveras County Fair & Jumping Frog Jubilee is one of the longest running events in the State of California. Its earliest roots date back to 1893, held that year in Copperopolis, the fair eventually found a permanent home outside of Angels Camp. In the spirit of the old movie classic “State Fair,” the Calaveras County Fair is a blend of entertainment, exhibits, livestock, arena events, great food and our signature event, the Frog Jump.
May 17, 2018 – Astronomy Night at Big Trees State Park – 8-10 pm – Docents will be sharing information and telling stories. Two telescopes and astronomical binoculars will give you a closer look at the moon, planets and deep sky objects. We’re excited to launch the newly purchased webcam so images can be shown on a 40” monitor in real time. Meet us at the Scenic Overlook in the park, just a few miles past the Visitor Center. This is one of the best night sky viewing areas in the region. Bring a chair or blanket to sit on. The Astronomy program at the park is run entirely by docent volunteers with significant investment by the Calaveras Big Trees Association.
