Forest Service Begins Road Repairs on Spicer Road, Work Will Repair Winter Storm Damage

Bear Valley, CA…Temporary repairs are underway on Spicer Road, Forest Road 7N01, on Calaveras Ranger District. The temporary repairs, scheduled between May 10 and May 25, will allow vehicle access to reservoirs during the Memorial Day weekend. Permanent repairs are scheduled between May 29 and late July.

Spicer Road offers primary access to Spicer, Union, and Utica reservoirs, east of the community of Arnold, California.

“We are relieved to be repairing Spicer Road,” said Ray Cablayan, Calaveras District ranger. “Last year’s winter storms really took their toll and we’re glad the Federal Highway Administration was able to provide funding for the repair. Spicer is a vital transportation route for visitors, residents and permittees.”

Travelers are warned that this will be an active construction site. Visitors should pay attention to roadway signs, be alert to the possibility of construction equipment, slow down when approaching traffic controllers and please drive cautiously through the construction zone.

The Spicer Road repair project stretches from Highway 4 to Spicer Meadow Reservoir. Forest travelers should expect construction delays in the project area. This is funded under the Federal Highway Administration program known as ERFO, or Emergency Relief for Federally Owned roads.
