Major Injuries to Young Tuolumne Man in Vehicle vs Bicycle Collision

Tuolumne, CA…On Thursday, May 17, 2018, at approximately 5:15 pm, 53 year old Sonora resident, Katherine Nutter, was driving a 2006 Kia, westbound on Tuolumne Road west of Pine Street. At this time, 13 year old Tuolumne resident, Logan Garner, was riding his BMX style bicycle in a northerly direction, crossing Tuolumne Road, directly into the path of the Kia. Garner was struck by the front bumper of the Kia and thrown onto the hood and windshield of the Kia and subsequently onto the ground.

Garner was not wearing a helmet and was flown to UC Davis Medical Center. Studies have shown that properly wearing a helmet can reduce your risk of a serious brain injury or death because during a fall or collision, most of the impact energy is absorbed by the helmet, rather than your head and brain.
