Sonora Woman Arrested on Attempted Arson, Vandalism & Probation Violations

Sonora, CA…Deputies discovered a much more sinister plan was in the works when they responded to a Sonora home on Phoenix Lake Road Saturday afternoon for a reported vandalism. The caller heard a loud noise at the front of their residence and saw a neighbor, 43-year-old Alayna Moro, walking away from the home with a hammer in her hand. Moro returned a short time later holding a gas can and lighter. She turned around and left the property after seeing the homeowner. A broken garage window and damage to an RV were believed to have been caused by Moro.

Deputies found Moro on her property and she admitted to causing the damage to her neighbor’s garage window and the RV’s headlight and bumper. She also admitted to damaging a rental car parked on her own property.

Moro told Deputies she intended on burning down her neighbor’s house by lighting a rag in the gas can and throwing it through the front window of the home. Moro was startled when she saw the homeowner and left prior to committing arson.

Moro, who is on probation for burglary and vandalism, was booked into the Tuolumne County Jail for charges of attempted arson, vandalism and for violating her probation.
