Jackson, CA…From the Amador Sheriff’s Office…”Yesterday afternoon the Sheriff’s Office received a report of a pick-up truck that ran off Electra Road and came to rest upside down in the Mokelumne River. Two of our deputies responded and upon finding the truck partially submerged in the river they began shedding their gear in preparation for a rescue operation. Fortunately, the driver and sole occupant was cut free from the pick-up by a passing motorist and was sitting at the water’s edge when we arrived.
Our deputies noted the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the driver’s breath. As this was in the unincorporated area of Amador County, the investigation was turned over to the California Highway Patrol.
The driver of the vehicle, fortunate to have escaped with his life, was ultimately placed under arrest for driving under the influence. A good reminder to exercise caution in and around our waterways and certainly to never drink and drive.”
