Pinecrest, CA…On June 16, 2018, at approximately 1105 hours, a 39 year old San Jose resident was driving a Can-Am side by side ATV. He was traveling westbound on Forest Service Road 6N19Y at approximately 30 MPH, near the Niagara Creek Campgrounds. For unknown reasons, the driver lost control of the ATV and began sliding in a southwesterly direction. The left rear of the ATV collided with a large tree, causing it to overturn.

The driver sustained fatal injuries as a result of the collision. 41 year old Discovery Bay resident, Shawna Stephenson, was a passenger and did not sustain any injuries as a result of the collision. The driver and Stephenson were both using proper restrains and proper safety equipment at the time of the collision. It is unknown if alcohol and/or drugs were a factor in this collision. This collision is still under investigation.
