Manslaughter Charges for Dorrington Man in Death of Geoffrey Ramsay, 65 of Stayton, OR

Bear Valley, CA…Montgomery was driving his 2001 Toyota 4 Runner westbound on State Route 4 east of Bear Valley Road. Ramsay was driving his 2016 Indian Roadmaster motorcycle pulling a motorcycle trailer eastbound on State Route 4, approaching Montgomery’s vehicle. Due to his level of intoxication, Montgomery allowed his vehicle to drift into the eastbound lane directly into the path of the motorcycle. Montgomery’s vehicle collided head-on with the motorcycle. Ramsay was ejected from his motorcycle and sustained fatal injuries as a result of the collision. Montgomery’s vehicle overturned and came to rest blocking the roadway.

Montgomery was arrested at the scene for 191.5(b) PC – Vehicular Manslaughter While Intoxicated, 23153(a) VC – Felony DUI Causing Injury, and 23153(b) VC – Felony DUI Causing Injury with a Blood Alcohol Concentration above .08%. Due to the extent of his injuries, he was initially transported by air ambulance to Sutter Roseville Medical Center for treatment. He was later admitted to Marshall Medical Center for further treatment. The CHP San Andreas Area is working with the Alpine County District Attorney’s Office to identify additional criminal charges that may be filed at a later date.

Alcohol was a primary factor in this collision. This collision is still under investigation.
