Sonora, CA…From the Tuolumne Sheriff’s Dept….This afternoon it was reported to our office that 6 sticks of dynamite were discovered in an old mining claim at the very end of Jack Page Rd. The dynamite was spongy and it is unclear how long the dynamite had been in the mine.

Sheriff’s deputies responded and cordoned off the area. The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office bomb personnel were contacted and responded to the scene. The dynamite was then carefully moved to an open area and disposed of by the bomb squad. Cal Fire also responded for fire prevention as a precaution.

Old dynamite can be very unstable, we ask the public not to handle, cover, move or transport unwanted explosives. We are thankful this dynamite did not explode unintentionally and that no one was injured. We are also thankful to the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance once again.
