Meals on Wheels Fundraiser Calaveras Wine, Cheese and Olive Festival Slated for August 4

Valley Springs, CA…The 2nd annual Calaveras Wine, Cheese and Olive Festival is back bigger and even better August 4th at La Contenta Golf Club in Valley Springs. “How can you go wrong with such incredible food and drink,” asked Dave Schemedes, festival chairperson. Nestled at the base of the Gold Country foothills, this popular festival celebrates the Good Life the miners enjoyed with their riches: Wine, Olives and Cheese. Foothill wineries, some whose grapes harken back to the Gold Rush days, will be pouring their best vintages. Cheese and olive purveyors, several local to the area, will be offering delicious samples of their craft. Live music and a silent auction will add to the fun. A special voting for the People’s Choice Wine Award will cap off the night.

The Rotary Club of San Andreas produces this festival with volunteer help. Proceeds from this year’s event will go toward the Meals on Wheels program of Common Ground Senior Services serving Calaveras County, as well as other Rotary projects.

“Common Ground provides a vital service to our seniors here in Calaveras,” said Schemedes. “Our Rotary motto is Service Above Self so it makes sense we host this festival and help raise funds for the Meals on Wheels program.”

Gold sponsors helping to underwrite the festival include Mark Twain Medical Center, Mar-Val Food Stores, Gooney’s Bar & Grill and George Reed Construction, Inc.

The event is open to adults age 21 and older. Tickets are $25 in advance, $35 at the door and may be purchased at La Contenta Golf Club or online at www.sanandreasrotary.com. Questions? Call (209) 498-8054.
