San Andreas, CA…Thomas James Milligan, July 9, 1945 – July 5th, 2018. Thomas James Milligan, Military Veteran, wine maker, artist, water master, computer engineer, inventor, coach, and jack of all trades, died Thursday just four days prior to his 73rd birthday from cancer. Tom, as he was known to his friends and family, spent his final years in Calaveras County. He was a source of comfort at the local hardware stores. His advice and creative thinking helped many an individual out of a sticky situation. While in Calaveras County, his love of wine really took shape, his 2004 Cabernet was second to none, and don’t forget his out of this world Bruschetta.
Tom’s parents Tom and Wanda Milligan (deceased) brought the family to California in 1972. He was the oldest of 10 siblings, Maggie, Sandy, Mary, Mike, Jim, Susan (deceased), Patty, Karen, and Robert. He met the love of his life (Linda Malta) on December 2nd, 1965. After a whirlwind romance, the two married on April 21, 1966. They had 2 sons, Thomas Joseph Milligan of Castro Valley and Robert James Milligan of Ione, and their better halves, Julie Kuzmicky and Deena Milligan. His twinkle in his smile could be seen with his 10 Grandchildren, Kaylin, Alexandra, Alec, Kendall, Angela, Drew, Elizabeth, Alise, Aidan, and Jeremy.
Tom was often seen with his best friend, Skipper, his dog that never left his side. He was a pet lover his entire life and valued each and every one of his extended family members.
He excelled in the planting, growing and landscaping of his yards. The once dull and dreary was transformed into a place of lush greens and breathtaking beauty. His creations weren’t just restricted to the outdoors, the indoor projects were a constant as well.
He spoke of great pride while serving his county in the United States Navy, on the USS Coral Sea from 1963-1969. But, he spoke of greater love with his wife (Linda Milligan) of 52 years.
He will be greatly missed, but know, he was greatly loved. His services will be held at the San Andreas Memorial Chapel this Saturday, July 14th at 11am.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the American Cancer Society in memory of Thomas James Milligan.
