Suspect Arrested After Fight and Tasing

Angels Camp, CA…On 08-04-18, at approximately midnight, an officer from the Angels Camp Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a lighting equipment violation, in the 700 block of S. Main Street. The driver initially provided a false name to the officer, and advised that he had no driver license or picture identification to provide to confirm his identity. The officer asked the driver to exit the vehicle and started to pat search him for weapons and to search him for identification, at which time the driver attacked the officer and started a physical fight. The driver was able to break free from the officer and started running south on S. Main Street. The officer chased the driver for a short distance before deploying his Taser, which was effective in stopping the fleeing suspect.

Further investigation revealed that the driver was Eugene D. Colis, a 46 year old Sonora resident. Colis’ driving privilege is currently suspended. In addition to driving on a suspended driver license it was discovered that Colis was in possession of methamphetamine and had five (5) outstanding warrants for his arrest, issued by the Tuolumne County Superior Court. Due to the suspended driver license the vehicle Colis was driving was impounded, and an inventory search revealed additional methamphetamine concealed in a soda cup in the vehicle.

A female passenger inside the vehicle was cited and released on scene for possession of methamphetamine, and Colis was arrested and transported to Mark Twain Hospital for a medical clearance prior to booking. Colis was booked into the Calaveras County Jail for the outstanding Tuolumne County warrants, as well as charges related to;
