Arnold, CA…Dr. Richard Oldenkamp passed away peacefully in his sleep at home in Arnold of congestive heart failure on September 16, 2018, at age 87. Dick was born on August 23, 1931 in Conrad, Montana to parents Clara and Dirk Oldenkamp. He is survived by his wife Hilary, children Bob (Vicky) Oldenkamp , Rick (Trisha) Oldenkamp, Dr. Sandy (Barney) Mann, Rev. Ron (Nancy) Oldenkamp, and Cheri (Joel) Hunter. He had 10 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and former wife Irene Oldenkamp.
After serving in the Marine Corps, Dick graduated from Montana State University and then earned his PhD in chemical engineering at the University of Pittsburgh. He worked for Rockwell International as a chemical engineer and manager. He was very active at the First Congregational Church, UCC, in Murphys, California, participating in Men’s Fellowship and serving on the Stewardship team. He was a gentle and compassionate man. He and his wife Hilary enjoyed many lovely trips in the time they had together. Dick had a passion for history and read about every battle in WW II. If he would have had a second career it would have been as a history professor!
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 13th at 2:00 p.m. at the First Congregational Church in Murphys, CA. A reception will follow and private internment in the Buena Vista Cemetery at another time.
