Bear Mountain Shaded Fuel Break, Whittle Vegetation Management Prescribed Burn

San Andreas – The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) is conducting a Prescribed Burn on the Bear Mountain Shaded Fuel Break and Whittle Vegetation Management Plan burn site, west of Angels Camp around the Fowler Peak Lookout. This burn will be approximately 500 acres in size and will reduce the fuel loading around the critical infrastructure sites that are on the mountain top. This burn will also allow CAL FIRE and Local Fire Departments to continue qualifications of Fire Fighters in numerous Fire line and Overhead positions.

The burn will commence at 8:00 a.m., Tuesday October 16th and should be completed on Friday October 19th. Resources utilized to conduct the burn include eleven fire engines, one water tender, one bulldozer, two hand crews, one helicopter and miscellaneous overhead personnel.

Resources will remain on scene throughout the week to ensure the site is completely controlled prior to turning the burn over to the landowners.
