Sonora, CA…On Saturday, November 3, 2018, at approximately 8:10 pm, 31 year old San Leandro resident, Christian Vargas-Zermeno was driving a 2003 Ford Focus westbound on State Route 108, west of Mono Way. 32 year old Soulsbyville resident, Andrew Wilson, was driving a 2015 Toyota Tundra eastbound on State Route 108, east of Old Wards Ferry Road over crossing. 17 year old Sonora resident, Ryan Littleton, was driving a 2007 GMC Sierra westbound on State Route 108, to the rear of Vargas-Zermeno. Due to Vargas-Zermeno’s alcohol intoxication, he allowed his vehicle to travel into the eastbound lane of State Route 108 over solid double yellow lines, causing a head on collision with Wilson’s Tundra.
The impact caused the Tundra to overturn in a northeasterly direction, directly into the path of Littleton’s Sierra. Subsequently, the front end of the Sierra struck the Tundra. The three drivers and Littleton’s 18 year old passenger, Dakota Murphy, were all properly restrained and suffered minor injuries. A second passenger in Littleton’s vehicle, 17 year old Cole Rodriguez, was also properly restrained and escaped any injuries. State Route 108 was closed for approximately 2 hours during the investigation and cleanup. Vargas-Zermeno was arrested for felony DUI causing injuries and booked into the Tuolumne County Jail.
