Groveland, CA…On Friday, November 16, 2018, at approximately 10:42 am, 43 year old San Francisco resident, Ioan Tudosa, was driving a 2018 Nissan Versa, westbound on State Route 120 approaching Smith Station Road at approximately 50 miles per hour, on his way back to San Francisco. At this time, an 82 year old Groveland resident was driving a 1990 Acura Integra, eastbound on State Route 120 east of Smith Station Road at an undetermined speed. Tudosa was distracted as he approached a right curve in the roadway for the intersection with Smith Station Road and diverted his attention from the roadway. During his inattention, he allowed the Nissan to travel over the solid yellow centerline, and completely into the eastbound lane, directly into the Acura’s path of travel. Tudosa then noticed he was no longer in the westbound lane and steered abruptly to the right.
The front of the Nissan struck the front of the Acura in the eastbound lane of State Route 120. The Nissan came to rest on its wheels on the north shoulder of State Route 120 facing in a southerly direction. The Acura came to rest on its wheels straddling the eastbound and westbound lanes of State Route 120 facing in a northerly direction. Both vehicles had major front end damage. Tudosa was properly restrained and the airbags deployed in the Nissan. Tudosa sustained major injuries and was transported to Doctor’s Medical Center in Modesto. The driver of the Acura was wearing the shoulder portion of the seatbelt but failed use the lap portion. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Drug and/or alcohol use is not a suspected factor in this collision. The investigation is ongoing.
