Angels Camp, CA…On July 14, 2015 at approximately 10:45 PM officers from the Angels Camp Police Department were on foot in the area of Mark Twain Road and S. Main Street on an unrelated call, when they heard a single, distinct gunshot in the area. Further investigation lead officers to the 700 block of Mark Twain Road where officers spoke to numerous residents that were standing outside, one of which provided a possible location of the shooter.

Officers spoke with 48 year old Angels Camp resident, Bret Smith, who eventually admitted that he exited his residence with a 12 gauge shotgun and fired a single round in to the air, then walked back inside his residence. Based on the close proximity of other residents in the area, Smith was arrested for 246.3(a) PC- Negligent Discharge of a Firearm, and booked in to the Calaveras County Jail.
