Major Injuries to San Jose Woman in Snowmobile Collision near Hermit Valley

Lake Alpine, CA…Woodman was operating a rental snowmobile westbound on SR-4, west of Hermit Valley, on a groomed snowmobile trail. She had a 14-year-old male passenger, and was riding in tandem with another snowmobiler in front of her. The snowmobile operator riding in front of her slowed to check on a stopped snowmobile on the right side of the trail. She attempted to also slow, but instead accelerated. She moved to the left to avoid hitting her riding partner, and rode off the trail into a tree. Both she and her passenger were ejected from the snowmobile, and she sustained major injuries. A CalFire helicopter responded to the scene and extricated her. The helicopter flew her to Bear Valley Ski Resort, where a Cal Star helicopter picked her up and transported her to Sutter Roseville Hospital.

Her passenger was transported by ground to Sonora Regional Medical Center. Alcohol or reckless operation do not appear to be factors in this collision.
