Periods of heavy rain, along with the strong winds, are expected and will make driving difficult due to slippery roads and poor visibility.
*Remember to slow down and drive cautiously.
*Replace old windshield wipers.
*Turn your headlights on keep a safe distance between you and the car in front of you.
*If traveling in areas of snow, make sure you carry chains.
During heavy periods of rain fall, there is the potential for standing water and flooding on roadways.
*Never drive through standing water. The average automobile can be swept off the road in 12 inches of moving water, and roads covered by water are prone to collapse. Attempting to drive through water also may stall your engine, with the potential to cause irreparable damage if you try to restart the engine.
*If you come upon a flooded street, take an alternate route. Some roads may become closed, impassable or washed out. DO NOT drive past road barricades. They are there for your safety.
When traveling keep an eye out for mud slides, rock slides and debris flows. Especially in the vicinity of burn scars.
