Tonight, At lower elevations, rain showers likely in the evening, then rain after midnight. At higher elevations, rain and snow showers likely in the evening, then rain and snow after midnight. Lows 25 to 40 higher elevations…37 to 45 lower elevations. No snow accumulation lower elevations…1 to 7 inches higher elevations. Snow level 6500 feet. Prevailing south winds 5 to 15 mph with gusts to around 30 mph…except southwest 20 to 30 mph over ridges.

Wednesday
Heavy rain showers and a slight chance of thunderstorms at lower elevations…and snow showers and heavy rain showers at higher elevations. Breezy. Highs 31 to 46 higher elevations…42 to 52 lower elevations. No snow accumulation lower elevations…8 to 14 inches higher elevations. Snow level 6500 feet. Prevailing south winds 10 to 25 mph with gusts to around 40 mph.

…A late season winter storm to impact the Sierra and Southern
Cascades tonight through Thursday morning…

.A Pacific storm sitting offshore will track inland overnight
spreading moderate to heavy snow accumulations to the interior
mountain ranges, particularly on Wednesday. Snow levels are
forecast to begin at 5,500 to 6,000 feet before falling to near
3,500 feet by early Thursday. Mountain travel will be hazardous
and is not advised. For those who need to travel, chain controls
are likely and expect lengthy delays. Snow showers will linger
into Thursday.

* WHAT…Heavy snow expected above 5000 feet. Travel will be very
difficult to impossible, including during the evening commute on
Wednesday. Tree branches could fall as well. Above 5000 feet,
total snow accumulations of 18 to 24 inches, with localized
amounts up to 3 feet, are expected.

* WHERE…West Slope Northern Sierra Nevada.

* WHEN…For the Winter Weather Advisory, until 11 PM today. For
the Winter Storm Warning, 11 PM today to 5 AM Thursday.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Be prepared for significant reductions in
visibility at times.
