The Calaveras Winegrape Alliance Announces a Local Art Competition Showcasing the Spirit of Murphys Grape Stomp and Harvest

Murphys, CA…The Calaveras Winegrape Alliance is launching the first ever poster art contest to celebrate our 26th anniversary as well as the newly branded “Murphys Grape Stomp and Harvest Festival”. Produced by the Calaveras Winegrape Alliance, Murphys Grape Stomp has been one of the regions most popular events enjoyed by generations of local residence and visitors alike who attend year after year to compete in California’s oldest, largest grape stomp competition. This year, the Calaveras Winegrape Alliance will be adding more harvest related activities and events to give people an immersive look into the Sierra Foothills harvest season and winemaking processes by celebrating all things grape harvest with vineyard tours, live music in the park, harvest cooking demonstrations, games, wine activities and more.

Local artists’ are invited to help design a limited-edition collectable poster that reflects Calaveras County’s historic wine region during the harvest season. The winning art submission will be used for all print and digital marketing purposes and will be part of the annual event traditions and on display during the event. The winning artist will receive a $500 prize in the form of $300 cash and $200 in event tickets, gift certificates and member donations.

Deadline for submission is 4pm Friday, May 31st, 2019

Artwork is to be delivered to Calaveras Winegrape Alliance office at 202 Main Street in Murphys. Be sure to call ahead and make arrangements to meet with a staff member when dropping off your submission at (209) 728-9467. The winner will be notified no later than June 14th, 2019 and invited to an awards reception.

Poster Contest Information:

All poster contest entrants must be 21 years of age or older.

Art is to be the original work of the entrant.

Lettering may NOT be included.

Only original artwork will be considered.

The artists agrees that text will be added to the artwork for promotional purposes and that the original artwork and all image reproduction rights become property of the Calaveras Winegrape Alliance. The Calaveras Winegrape Alliance retains the right to revise or alter art work as needed to accommodate various communication vehicles.

The design and design rights become the property of Calaveras Winegrape Alliance and will be adapted for, but not limited to all forms of print and digital media.

Artist agrees that Calaveras Winegrape Alliance retains the right to produce and sell items with the artwork for the purpose of fundraising without compensation to the artist.

By entering this contest, winners agree to the use of their name and artwork for advertising/publicity purposes without additional compensation.

Artist may sign his or her work.

Art should be original done in paint, pen, pencil, collage or digital media. Sculpture or 3D media is not advised.

Artwork should be mounted (foam board or poster board) and unframed. It needs to stand up on its own for judging.

The winning entry will be the artwork judged that best captures the spirit and essence of Calaveras Wine Country and the wine harvest season.

Artist will include name, address, phone and email address on the back of entry and signed agreement that will accompany submission in order to be considered.
