Local Pair Arrested After Using Facebook to Advertise Their Drug Sales

Sonora, CA…From the Sonora Police Dept…Facebook post leads to drug, gun, and child endangerment arrests. On April 22, 2019, at about 10:35pm, a Facebook post caught the attention of a Sonora resident. The post was advertising marijuana for sale. A SPD Officer contacted the person who posted the message and set up a meeting to buy some of the marijuana. The meeting place ended up being in Jamestown.

Malissa McCarthy, 38 of Jamestown, arrived at the meeting point on foot with 2 ounces of marijuana in her possession. McCarthy was found to be on probation. A male who was seen with McCarthy was seen standing at an apartment door across the street and was contacted. He was identified as Addam Smith, 20 of Jamestown, and was the boyfriend of McCarthy and father of her youngest child.

Inside the apartment in plain view from the outside was several more ounces of marijuana. During a safety check of the child and probation search, a young child was found safe inside. Two guns, ammunition, 27 ounces of marijuana, and 3.6 ounces of methamphetamine were located inside the apartment along with cash.

Both McCarthy and Smith were arrested for several felony charges each and booked at the county jail. The child was taken into protective custody and released to Child Welfare Services. Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the scene.
