Sonora, CA…A multi-agency effort led to an arrest in sex crimes involving children. Detectives arrested 36-year-old Armando Lamas of Sonora on a number of charges including: lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14, contacting a minor with sexual intent, and willful cruelty to a child. The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office received the initial report and forwarded the case to the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office and Sonora Police Department.
It was believed that sex acts had taken place within the jurisdictions of both Tuolumne County and Sonora City. The Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office, Sonora Police Department, and Tuolumne County Kid Interview Team (KIT) partnered together to interview the two victims in this case and gather information that led to Lamas arrest. The KIT Team consists of DA’s office, Child Welfare Services, Victim Witness, Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office, Sonora Police Department, Probation, Behavioral Health, and Tuolumne Band of Mi-Wuk Indians Social Services Department. We are grateful to our law enforcement partners for their efforts in this investigation.
