Angels Camp, CA…Gladys E. Hargous went home to be with God surrounded by her family on July 15, 2015. Gladys, or Grammy as she was affectionately known by many, was born October 1, 1921 to Walter and Eva Tomlinson (Flint) on the Flint Farm in San Juan Batista. She was a descendent of Patrick Breen, who was part of the Donner Party. Gladys had two brothers, Raymond and Robert.
Gladys married Louis E. Hargous (Duke) in 1942. They moved to San Jose where she received her Teaching Credential and taught in the Franklin McKinely School District. Gladys and Duke had three children; Mary, Linda, and William (Bill).
After a move to Calaveras County in 1979, Gladys began teaching in the Vallecito School District and later in the Mark Twain School District. She taught, substituted, and volunteered until she was 91.
Gladys had many hobbies. She loved the outdoors; she spent many summers camping for weeks with her daughter and her great- grandchildren at Beaver Creek. She loved photography, fossils, hunting, fishing, four-wheeling and traveling. Gladys had many adventures. On Gladys’ 91st birthday she did the Zip Line at Moaning Cavern with her dear friend of many years Gloria Kelly.
Gladys had a strong love of God. She attended church regularly. She was also a leader in Awana for many years, and a member of Mom’s in Prayer.
Gladys is survived by her daughter, Mary K. Rosbrook, her granddaughters Cheri L. Rosbrook and Teri A. and Brian Smith, her great-grandchildren, Kate M. Stephens, Cody H. Stephens, Melissa D. Howard, Chappie M. LaSan Jr, Haily A. Redman, Tyler Smith, and her Great Great-Grandaughter Paisley E. Stephens, and numerous friends.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents Walter and Eva, husband, Duke, her daughter Linda, her son Bill, her two brothers, Raymond and Robert.
A celebration of Gladys’ life was be held at the Country Cowboy Church, 14888 Peaceful Valley Road, Sonora, CA 95370 on August 1, 2015
