Sonora, CA…From the Tuolumne Sheriff’s Dept…A Sonora man has been arrested after attacking one of our deputies and a CHP Officer. Early yesterday morning a Sheriff’s Deputy met with CHP Officers at a home on Nashua Road in Sonora to assist with the recovery of a stolen vehicle. 44-year-old Larry Vannatta was at the home and was wanted on several charges: child endangerment, felon in possession of firearms, and narcotics sales.
Vannatta ran from the home and was found hiding in a nearby garage. When approached by the CHP Officer, Vannatta charged at the officer knocking him to the ground. Vannatta continued to attack the officer and deputy forcing them to use a taser, which had no effect. Vannatta also attempted to grab at the officer’s belt and equipment. Additional deputies arrived and after some time were finally able to secure Vannatta into handcuffs.
During a search, Vannatta was found in possession of nearly 12 grams of methamphetamine and the keys to the stolen vehicle.
Vannatta, the Deputies, and CHP Officer were evaluated by medical personnel. Vannatta was then booked into the Tuolumne County Jail for his outstanding warrants and now faces additional charges of committing a felony while out on bail, resisting arrest, battery on a peace officer, burglary, attempted burglary and possession of a controlled substance for sale.
