Sonora, CA…On June 26, 2019, at approximately 7:54am, Thomas Wright, a 69-year-old male from Knights Ferry, was driving a 2018 Kenworth 3 Axle truck that was pulling a trailer. He was traveling eastbound on State Route 108, west of Peaceful Oak Drive at approximately 40 miles per hour. At that same location, Ming Fung, a 70-year-old male from Twain Harte, was driving a 2004 Ford Taurus westbound on State Route 108 at approximately 55 miles per hour. The westbound traffic ahead of Mr. Fung was slowing due to scheduled maintenance work in the area. Mr. Fung applied his brakes to slow down, but he began to lose control. As a result, he traveled into the eastbound lane and the front of his vehicle struck the left rear axle for Mr. Wrights trailer.
After the impact, the trailer overturned spilling its load across both lanes of traffic. As the load was spilled, some of the debris struck 2 other passing vehicles and caused minor damage. As a result of the blocked roadway, State Route 108 was closed for approximately 2 ½ hours. The westbound traffic was detoured off onto upper Mono Way and the eastbound traffic was detoured off onto Peaceful Oak Drive. Both Mr. Wright and Mr. Fung did not suffer any injuries. Alcohol and/or drugs are not suspected to be a factor in this collision.
