San Andreas, CA…On September 18th A 25 Year Old from Yorba Linda was traveling southbound in a 2019 Ram at 60 miles per hour on SR-49 north of Howell Road. A Valley Springs woman was traveling southbound in her Acura at 55 miles per hour on SR-49 north of Howell Road to the front of the Ram.
The driver of the Ram drove across the double solid yellow lines and into the opposing lane, towards oncoming traffic and attempted to accelerate past the Acura. The Valley Springs woman applied the brakes of Acura and steered to the right due to this unsafe pass. Opposing traffic veered to the right due to Ram traveling in their lane. While attempting to pass Acura, the right side of the Ram collided with the left side of the Acura. The Valley Springs woman drove her Acura to the west shoulder of SR-49 and waited for CHP to arrive. The Ram driver momentarily stopped south of the Acura’s location but ultimately fled the scene until being stopped by the Angels Camp Police Department.
With assistance from the public, CHP San Andreas officers were able to positively identify the driver from Yorba Linda as the driver and the vehicle involved in the collision and the driver was arrested for Hit and Run.
The use of alcohol and/or drugs is not a factor in this collision.
California law requires drivers that have been involved in a property damage traffic collision to make contact with the owner of the damaged property and provide their driver’s license, current address and vehicle registration information.
